15th October 2024 – Echoes of Greece – Benaki Museum, Pireos 138, Athens, Greece
Commemorating the bicentenary of Lord Byron’s death and with an introductory talk on his legacy by author Sofka Zinovieff, the evening presented chamber music from Byron’s era (Schubert, Beethoven, Mendelssohn) alongside three pieces by Tom, including his setting of Beckett’s last poem, scored for two voices, cello and narrator and the world premiere of his cello sonata. Performers included pianist Noam Greenberg, Trio El Greco and a host of the finest Greek musicians. The concert ended with the world premiere of his latest commission: Morias, for large ensemble – a poignant and powerful reflection of Tom’s deep connection with the Peloponnese.
